Veterans Day in the Chattahoochee Valley

COLUMBUS, Ga. -

A brief look at the Veterans Day events around the Columbus, Fort Benning, Auburn and entire Chattahoochee Valley area. We will update this story with images and videos throughout the day.

Local events:

  • 10a et: Vietnam Veterans Memorial Park ceremony in Columbus
  • 11a et / 10a ct: City of Auburn ceremony at the Auburn Veterans Memorial
  • 12p et: Columbus State University sounding of the bells
  • 1p et: Flag retirement at the National Infantry Museum hosted by the Boy Scouts.
  • 2p et: Tree dedication for fallen soldiers at National Infantry Museum
  • Through 5p et: National Infantry Museum, which is normally closed on Mondays, open until 5p et.

Veterans Day freebies:

  • Texas Roadhouse: Free lunch for veterans and active military members. Ends at 2p.
  • Chili's offering a free entree to veterans. Additionally, Chili's will donate ten percent of the check to the Wounded Warrior Project if the customer mentions "Give Back Event."
  • Goo-Goo Car 3 Minute Express Washes offering free car washes to veterans.

Columbus city services:

  • No trash pickup Monday. Monday's routes will run Tuesday and Tuesday's routes will run Wednesday. Thursday and Friday will have regular routes.
  • Metra bus service suspended on Monday.
  • Granite Bluff and Pine Grove landfills closed
  • Animal control closed

Auburn city services:

  • City Hall closed Monday.
  • Trash services shifts one day: Monday moves to Tuesday, Tuesday to Wednesday, etc.
