DURHAM, N.C. -

The Wounded Warriors Amputee Softball Team made its North Carolina debut Sunday at the Durham Athletic Park.

The team, made up of servicemen who have lost limbs while serving in the military, competed with a team of Durham law enforcement officers, firefighters and emergency medical personnel.

The team's mission is to raise awareness of the sacrifices and resilience of the U.S. military, and highlight their ability to rise above any challenge.

"It is an honor to bring these gentlemen to Durham and give the community a chance to see them in action," Durham County Sheriff Mike Andrews said.

The team also visited the VA Hospital in Durham.
