Locating sex offenders

The night before Halloween it's good to know where possible sex offenders are in your community. Pitt County Sheriff Neil Elks says parents and law enforcement both share that responsibility.

Wednesday afternoon Pitt County deputies and investigators with the U.S. Marshal's Office went door to door checking for sex offenders. Once a suspect is convicted and labeled as a sex offender, it is law enforcement's job to make sure they know where they are.

"Often times we find that they are no longer living there and that is a concern of ours because we encourage our citizens to go to the web page to see what sex offenders live near their homes," Sheriff Neil Elks said.

If offenders move, deputies say it is the offenders duty to notify authorities within three days. "We're trying to keep the sex offender accountable and let them know that they are subject to be checked and if they are in violation, they will be arrested."

Out of the four houses we visited with deputies, one was at home. They say it is because some of them were at work, running errands or didn't live there at all. The Sheriff's Office has identified six offenders on the run.

If you recognize any of these suspects, please call police:
  1. Marvin Blue, 26
  2. Nicholas Gallinoto, 41
  3. Willie Ray Johnson Jr., 34
  4. Eric Lanier, 26
  5. Robert McCloud, 50
  6. Clifton Moore, 57
