Change Your Clocks, Change Your Smoke Detector Batteries

Posted: Updated:

Daylight saving time is set to end next week on Sunday, November 3rd at 2 a.m.; however, while you're springing all your clocks back one hour, it's also a great time to change the batteries in your smoke detectors.

"Last year in Georgia there were 74 fatal residential fires and 34 of those fires didn't have a working smoke alarm. If you have a smoke alarm, make sure it's in working order.  Changing the battery at least once every year and cleaning dust from the device are easy ways to ensure continued protection of your family and your property.  Having a working smoke alarm doubles the chances you will survive a fire in your home," said Georgia Safety Fire Commissioner Ralph Hudgens.
