One arrested in disappearance of Harris County girl

Posted: Updated:
HARRIS COUNTY, Ga. -

A missing child case in Harris County has turned into a sex crime investigation. Officials said the teen is safe and with her family.

Thirty-nine-year-old Dominique Wright was charged with sexual exploitation of a minor and interference with custody in Harris County Monday afternoon. He was arrested by Cobb County law enforcement around 5 a.m. Monday and was transported back to Harris County.

The alleged victim in the case is a minor with special needs. She disappeared Sunday afternoon. A family member discovered her missing and immediately contacted police. "Because of her mental capacity being less than her age we went the extra mile," Harris County Sheriff Mike Jolley said.

Investigators requested the teen's cell phone records and discovered text messages between the victim and suspect. Jolley said the two apparently arranged to meet up and then Wright drove her to his Cobb County home.

"I wouldn't call it a relationship. I would call it a predator-ship," Sheriff Jolley said. He said the two met in an online chatroom. Detectives are unsure when the conversations began, but said they eventually turned into text messages and explicit photos of the victim allegedly being sent to Wright.

The suspect has an extensive criminal record. According to the Georgia Department of Corrections website he was released from prison in February 2013 where he was serving a 10-year sentence for robbery, aggravated assault and forgery.

"We're pretty sure he had no other contact with anybody else from Harris County or Muscogee [County]." But Sheriff Jolley said in order to protect your children from predators it's important to know their online habits. "Parents need to know what they're children are doing on the Internet... that's the bottom line. You need to have your child's password, you need to know who your child's friends are."

Jolley said the investigation may extend to Cobb County and additional charges may be filed. The Harris County Sheriff's Office is continuing their investigation.
