RALEIGH, N.C. -

Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison said one arrest has been made in the North Carolina State Fair incident that injured five.

Timothy Dwayne Tutterrow, 46, of Quitman, Ga., has been charged with three felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious bodily injury, Harrison said. Tutterrow is being held under $225,000 secured bond.

"After inspection of the ride, we determined that it had been tampered with and critical safety devices were compromised," Harrison said.

Tutterrow is employed by an independent ride contractor.

The investigation is continuing, and additional arrests may be made, Harrison said.

Five people were injured following an incident Thursday night on the Vortex ride. "The ride had stopped and they were fixing to offload when it started off again. That is the preliminary report," Harrison said.

Three of the five remain hospitalized. They are Anthony Gorham, 29; Kisha Gorham, 39; and a 14-year-old juvenile.
