Brush fires along I-185 may have been intentionally set; delays traffic

HARRIS COUNTY, Ga. -

Fire crews battled at least nine brush fires that ignited along Interstate 185 in both Harris and Muscogee County Thursday afternoon. All the fires were along the right shoulder of the road.

The fires started just north of Double Churches Road and J.R. Allen Parkway at about 3:30 p.m. At least three fires were spotted in Muscogee County and six in Harris County, according to the Columbus Fire Department.

Drivers slowed during Thursday evening's evening commute as smoke hung over the five mile stretch of road.

The Fire Department says the fires look to have been set intentionally. They're asking anyone with information to call Fire Investigations at 706-329-0025.
