In Onslow County, a wounded Army veteran is enjoying some much needed upgrades to his home.

Thursday, volunteers from the United Way of Onslow County teamed up with Home Depot to make $5,800 worth of home improvements for free.

26-year-old Derek Coble lives at the home in Hubert with his wife and son. Coble medically retired from the Army with an inoperable brain tumor that makes it difficult for him to do strenuous work.

That's why volunteers, many of them Marines, pitched in to help him, installing a pergola, flag pole, garden, wheelchair ramp, and more.

The renovations are part of Home Depot's 3rd Annual Celebration of Service project, helping wounded veterans get free upgrades and renovations to their homes to match their mobility needs.
