Baseball teams shave heads to raise money for children's cancer

COLUMBUS, Ga. -

The Columbus State University and Chattahoochee Valley Community College baseball programs are raising money and creating awareness for children's cancer this month.

The teams will scrimmage on Friday, Oct. 25 at 6 p.m. Players and coaches will be shaving their heads prior the game at 5 p.m.

Fans are welcome and encouraged to join the CSU and CVCC baseball players and coaches to have their heads shaved as well. Admission is free, and donations for cancer research will be accepted at the gate. The event will be held at Ragsdale Field on the campus of Columbus State University.

"We are very excited about teaming up with Chattahoochee Valley Community College to support the VS. Cancer Foundation," stated CSU head baseball coach Greg Appleton. "Our players have rallied around this great cause to help kids fight cancer and have done a great job. I am very proud of them."

The CSU Cougars and the CVCC Pirates have each been charged with raising as much sponsorship money as possible. Proceeds will be equally divided between the Vs. Cancer Foundation, which is a non-profit organization dedicated to saving kids' lives by empowering athletes and communities to fund lifesaving childhood cancer efforts, and local children's hospitals.

Columbus State has been advertising and collecting funds online at www.stayclassy.org/fundraise/team?ftid=25099 and is nearing its goal of $8,500. Supporters may make contributions online at anytime.
