Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Detectives in Savannah are trying to determine if a homicide on the Southside could be connected to an attempted suicide in the Islands Precinct.

About 11:20 Tuesday night, Islands Precinct Officers responded to the first block of North Parkwood Street, where they found Justin Baldwin, 24, of the 400 block of West Montgomery Cross Road suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

He was transported to Memorial Medical Center. His condition has not been released.

At 11:30 p.m. the same night, Southside Precinct officers responded to an apartment on the 400 block of W. Montgomery Cross Road, where they discovered 24 year old Jessica Nowell. Nowell died from a gunshot wound.

The two cases appear to be related.

SCMPD Violent Crimes detectives continue to investigate. Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Crimestoppers at (912) 234-2020 or text CRIMES (274637). Tipsters remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.
