A career law enforcement officer will serve as the new director of North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement.
The N.C. Department of Public Safety announced Tuesday that Bernard W. Collier II is the new head at ALE, the state's lead agency for enforcing laws pertaining to alcoholic beverages, tobacco and gambling.
Collier has been an agent with the State Bureau of Investigation for 26 years, most recently serving as director and special agent in charge of the North Carolina Information Sharing and Analysis Center. The center partners with local, state and federal law enforcement to exchange and analyze homeland security information.
During his long career, Collier has also worked as a drug investigator, pilot, an arson and crime scene agent, canine handler, a technical agent and a bomb squad commander.
