New Super Cranes Begin Operation at Georgia Ports Authority

Posted: Updated:
SAVANNAH, GA -

They're the powerful pieces of machinery that make the ports hum. Now the Georgia Ports Authority has four new giant cargo loading cranes up and running.

They call them the " Super Post-Panamax " cranes. A big name for the giant machines, which when operating, will allow the ports to take in and send out even more freight.

the first of the four cranes actually went into service back in August, with additional cranes coming on line every few weeks. The fourth new crane is now ready to begin moving cargo. Each new crane can lift up to 65 tons. The ports authority says the new machines will allow Georgia's ports to keep up with the rapid pace of global trade.
