RALEIGH, N.C. -

From a Los Angeles soundstage in front of millions viewers on national television to her living room in a Raleigh apartment, Kat Robichaud knows what it's like to play for audiences large and small.

"We've played to four people [and] we've played to thousands of people," the Concord native said. "We've gone without paychecks and we've done really well."

Before auditioning for NBC's "The Voice" and earning a spot on CeeLo Green's team, the North Carolina State University grad toured clubs around the country with her rock band The Design and before that a cover band for seven years.

"I've been through it," Kat said, "the ups and downs of the music industry and I know what rejection feels like. So that's why it's such a shock for the [Blind Auditions] and for the [Battle Rounds] -- getting picked because I'm so used to things not working out."

So far this season, things have been working out for Kat. After being picked to join Team CeeLo, she was tasked by her coach with performing Aerosmith's "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" for a chance to move forward in the singing competition.

The performance, which had her trading verses with teammate R. Anthony, was taped several months ago, but her fans -- the appropriately named "KatPack" -- didn't get to see or hear the results of that Battle until last week.

After her performance, CeeLo praised Kat and R. Anthony, saying they "both did an exceptional job." The coach spoke highly of R. Anthony's precision, and referred to Kat as a "dynamo" adding "I need a natural disaster like you, I need a storm like you."

Coach and Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine even went so far as to say his biggest regret from the Blind Auditions was not turning his chair for Kat.

With that, CeeLo and his fellow coaches handed Kat a decisive victory, sending her to the Knockout Rounds -- the last step before the live shows begin.

The win was a secret that Kat and her husband Guillaume Robichaud, a graduate research assistant at N.C. State, have had to keep since the Battles were tapped. Still, Guillaume says the experience has been nerve-racking

"It's very, very stressful because there's nothing you can do," Guillaume said. "It's all on her shoulders and you're there in the back and you know what's at stake."

Now the couple is just trying to enjoy the ride as Kat tries to manage her rapidly growing social media popularity

"I just feel -- I know it sounds cliché to say -- I've been blessed," Kat said. "But this is just amazing, so I'm trying to stay in the moment and not panic too much about the future."

Of course, she hopes to walk away the winner. But she says no matter what happens, Kat hopes her experience on the show will serve as a springboard to a long career in the music industry.

"That's what I want. What I want more than anything is to build a name for myself so I can work with a lot of talented people and create beautiful music," said Kat, who counts Lady Gaga and Queen as some of her biggest musical influences.

Until then, Kat can be seen on "The Voice," where she continues to impress industry professionals and add new fans to her KatPack with each performance.
