Posted: Updated:
SMITHFIELD, N.C. -

The State Highway Patrol is asking for assistance in identifying a man who was struck and killed in Smithfield on Sunday.

The unidentified Hispanic male was walking east on Black Creek Road between Long Branch Road and N.C. 210 around 8:54 p.m. when he was struck by a 1995 Ford Mustang driven by Amber Stewart, 19, of Smithfield.

The man, who has black hair with black facial hair on the chin, did not have any identification on him at the time.

The State Highway Patrol says the man stands about 5 feet 9 inches tall and has a slim build. He has a large tattoo on his back that reads "Southside" and a smaller tattoo of a "Cross" on his left thumb.

The man was wearing a gray, fitted baseball cap with the Superman logo on the front; dark gray sweatshirt; blue basketball-style shorts; yellow- and red-colored ankle style socks; and gray, black, yellow and white Adidas basketball-style sneakers.

Troopers say he was carrying a silver mp3 player, red earbud headphones and a black briefcase with numerous clothes inside.

Anyone with information on the identity of this victim should contact the State Highway Patrol Office in Smithfield at (919) 934-2186.

Steward will not be charged in this incident.
