MAXTON, NC (WBTW) - A Robeson County school teacher was arrested this week after deputies said she was found at school highly intoxicated.

According to Captain Cathy Torie with the Robeson County Sheriff's Department, deputies were called Monday morning to Townsend Middle School after Robin Barnhill came to school drunk.

Deputies gave Barnhill a breathalyzer test and had a blood-alcohol-content (BAC) of .34, Torie said. That is four times the legal limit in North Carolina.

Barnhill was charged with two counts of the possession or consumption of fortified wine, liquor or mixed beverages on unauthorized premises. She was arrested at the school and taken to the Robeson County jail. She was given a $1,000 bond.

Robeson County Public Schools spokesperson Tasha Oxendine said Barnhill was "suspended pending the outcome of the investigation."

Barnhill has been employed as a 6th grade teacher in Robeson County since 2001.
