Ashley Judd, Patrick Wilson to star in Big Stone Gap; filming starts this week

BIG STONE GAP, VA (WJHL) -

Her stories helped put a Southwest Virginia town on the map, and now , the novel 'Big Stone Gap' is poised to hit the big screen.

The homegrown, best selling author Adriana Trigiani spoke to a packed auditorium at Mountain Empire Community College today, detailing her inspiration and hopes for the film project.

Trigiani says an A-list crew will be working to bring the story to the silver screen, including Oscar-winning producer Donna Gigliotti. Other names floating around include actors Ashley Judd and Patrick Wilson.

Those with connections to Big Stone Gap know firsthand what a valued opportunity this is, to boost the town's struggling economy.

"I'm very aware of the fact that this beautiful thing is happening in a place were so many people are suffering, and I think that's the least I can do and it will reveal itself when we can do more," Trigiani said.

"This is a golden opportunity for us, and we're confident that when this movie comes out that people are going to be beating a path to Big Stone Gap," Ron Flandery, who will be playing Otto in the movie.

Filming for the movie will begin Saturday. And if you're interested in being an extra, email bigstonegapcast@gmail.com
