11 year old student robbed before school Thursday morning

COLUMBUS, Ga. -

It's a situation we see on fictional television shows frequently. A group of students will take another students lunch money. Well this situation became a reality Thursday morning in Columbus when an 11 year old girl says a group of juveniles robbed her. The alleged incident took place at the Acacia Drive and Rosemont Drive.

The Muscogee County School District takes bullying very seriously and once a situation is reported they immediately investigate and determine the proper course of action.

"Children need to know that bullying is not going to be tolerated in the Muscogee County School District," said Valerie Fuller Director of Communications.

Some Richard's middle school students found this out the hard way. The school district wants students to know the consequences for bullying can be costly and you don't have to be on school grounds to get in trouble.

"In any situation where the behavior code and disciple policies are violated we want students to know that you can be suspended. You can be expelled. You can be sent to alternative school. You can even be charged criminally," said Fuller.

She says students should report bullying even if they are not the victim.

"We encourage students to talk to their parents and tell them what's happening day to day in their school lives. We also encourage them to talk to teachers, their counselors, their school administrators even police. If it's something that happens in the community because that's how we're going to find out about things," said Fuller.

She said this will provide a more comfortable environment for all students.

"Every child deserves to come to school and have a safe teaching and learning environment that is our goal. It's about academics. It's about achievements. It's about their success," said Fuller.

October is actually National Bullying Prevention Month. Students at Northside High School started a Man up Against Bullying Campaign to spread awareness about bullying throughout the school system.

They will be shooting a lip dub video on October 22nd in Downtown Columbus.  You can find out more information about that at http://northsidemarketing.weebly.com/man-up-against-bullying.html.

To report bullying anonymously you can call the student hotline at 706-748-2267
