Future of Keagy Village and new addition

Posted: Updated:
ROANOKE COUNTY, VA -

here is a new addition to Keagy Village in Roanoke County.

Pure Barre, a ballet and pilates based fitness class, officially opens for business Monday.

Owner Traci Dority-Shanklin used to take the classes in Los Angeles and wanted to start up the studio in southwest Virginia.

"I just felt like Roanoke really needed something that was like Pure Barre, something that was exciting and different and I felt like I would bring a little LA to Roanoke if you will," said the owner.

Dority-Shanklin says the class uses small movements to target and tone the spots women are concerned about.

Pure Barre is a new sign of economic development at Keagy Village.

"I knew it was a little risky be it that it is an empty establishment and it needs to be built out still," said Dority-Shanklin. "I just felt like it was some of the prettiest space I found and I felt like Pure Barre was going to be on new curve to Roanoke anyway so it wasn't necessarily going to be driven by walk by traffic."

Real estate group Poe and Cronk says they've been showing the spaces almost every week---  talking to some grocery stores, local and national restaurants as well as people who may want to move their office space to Keagy Village

"They have an aggressive new owner and an aggressive real estate firm representing the owner and I think it's going to take off in the future," said Jill Loope, the Roanoke County economic development director.

Loope says with about 3,000 employees nearby at LewisGale and Allstate Insurance there is room for growth.

"We have about 27,000 vehicles per day coming along this corridor so it's a very high-traffic corridor one of the busiest in the county," said Loope.
