Scooter Theft Warning in Savannah

Posted: Updated:

If you own a motor scooter in Savannah, you had better be sure to lock it up regularly. Metro Police say they are noticing a growing number of thefts.

"These scooters are relatively easy for thieves to pick up and steal," said Acting Chief Julie Tolbert.

So far, 36 scooters have been reported stolen in the Savannah-Chatham Metro Police jurisdiction and 30 of them since July 1st. Only seven were secured with a locking device, according to detectives.

Officials advise scooter owners to use a chain or cable to secure the motorized units to a fixed object.
