Posted: Updated:
CARTER COUNTY, TN (WJHL) -

An Elizabethton man is speaking out exclusively to News Channel 11, after he said a Carter County deputy assaulted him.

Carter County Deputy Matt Ainsworth was arrested Sunday on Assault and Assault Under Domestic Violence.

Monday, he was arraigned and made bail.

Sheriff Chris Mathes said Ainsworth is on administrative leave without pay, pending the investigation.

Dennis Bennett said Ainsworth's girlfriend came to his apartment asking for help. Bennett said as he was trying to remember Ainsworth's licence plate tag when he was tackled from behind. Bennett said that is the last thing he remembers until he woke up in the hospital hours later.

Bennett has been released from the hospital, but suffered several scratches, bruises, a broken nose and fractured jaw.

"I am in shock, just the whole situation. I was just trying to help her out, call the police to get him to leave. We have a restraining order so he can't come back around there," said Bennett.

Ainsworth will be in court again December 27th at 9 A.M.

Sheriff Mathes said he will release more information Tuesday.
