GREENE COUNTY, TN (WJHL) -

A retired employee and three current employees of Chuckey and Cross Anchor Utility Districts in Greene County are on paid administrative leave pending the results of an audit.

According to Chuckey Utility District President John Carter, the four are also all related.

Carter confirmed the people on leave include retired manager Shirley Collins, her husband inspector Willie Collins, their daughter acting manager Kandie Jennings and her husband license operator Bill Jennings.

The utility districts and their auditor are not going into specifics, but they've both said the State Comptroller's Office is now aware of the situation.

Certified Public Accountant Mickey Ellis says he was preparing to move forward with his annual audit of the utility districts when he discovered something that caught his attention.

"I came across information that I thought the Comptroller would be interested in weighing in on," Ellis said.

Ellis says last week he passed along that information to the State Comptroller's Office.

Chuckey Utility District's board president says that's when the four people in question were placed on administrative leave.

"I wish the state was here today, because I would love to get this cleared up one way or the other," Carter said. "This not changing our daily operation. We're still going forward. We've got people in place to be doing the same jobs. I don't want people to think that next week they won't be having water to drink."

Although both the board president and utility district's auditor say the state is aware of the situation, the Comptroller's Office would not confirm that.

"We can't confirm or deny if we are investigating," spokesperson Blake Fontenay said.

As for the people on paid administrative leave, we left messages on both couple's home phones today but have not heard back from them.
