Detectives investigate shooting threat at Pine Forest High School

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -

Detectives with the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office are investigating a threat of violence at Pine Forest High School.

Investigators were made aware of the threat Saturday via citizens' complaints after seeing the messages on Facebook and Twitter.

A person claiming to be a student at the high school said he planned to bring a gun to the school on Monday and shoot several students.

"I am going to shoot up the school, and then kill myself," the purported student wrote.

The Facebook post indicated that the threat may stem from bullying.

"You have tormented me in school for long enough," he wrote. "This is over."

Detectives are investigating the threat and the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office said it will be on the school campus next week to ensure student safety.

Investigators encourage anyone who may know who sent the messages to contact the sheriff's office at (910) 323-1500.

In 1986, a 17-year-old student opened fire at Pine Forest High School, injuring three other students.
