Vehicle Fire Creates Panic at Savannah Pump Station

Posted: Updated:

A brief scare Thursday night for a group of city workers employed at Savannah's pump station.

Savannah Fire tells News Three that the trouble began when a city vacuum truck caught fire. It quickly spread to the building located on East Gwinnett Street.

News Three spoke to three workers on the scene. Two of them were inside the building and said they heard three loud jolts of noise that sounded like an explosion. Both men made it out the building safe.

The city vacuum truck was destroyed, but no damage was caused to the building, said Savannah Fire official Mark Keller. The city vacuum truck is a large vehicle used to vacuum leaves out of the city's sewer system.
