Sumter County man shot at funeral in Americus

AMERICUS, Ga. -

An arrest has been made in the Wednesday shooting of a man attending his mother's funeral in Sumter County.

The Sumter County Sheriff's Office says Helen Anne Cason, 62, of 688 Bumphead Road in Americus faces Aggravated Assault, Possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, multiple counts of Reckless Conduct and cruelty to Children.

Cason is accused of shooting Jack Aycock. He was at Concord Methodist Church when authorities believe the mother of his estranged wife, Cason,  shot him in the chest around 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Aycock  is in the hospital. Cason is being held at the Sumter County Jail awaiting a bond hearing.
