Good Wednesday morning! The atmosphere can be so beautiful at times… and one of these displays occurred just last evening!

Mother Nature put on a spectacular light show over the Midwest and northern states last night as the Aurora Borealis danced across the night's sky.

The Northern Lights brought fall colors over central Minnesota… with bright red… green… purple and orange filling the sky. Other areas in the northern states saw the lights as well.

Amateur photographers and sky gazers alike took to social media to share videos and images of Mother Nature's beauty.

Creating the display of colors… the arrival of a powerful solar wind in excess of 375 miles per second from a coronal mass ejection shocking the Earth's magnetic sheath last night beginning around 10 pm.

The sun's magnetic field… embedded in the wind… pointed sharply southward… allowing eager electrons and protons to worm their way past our magnetic defenses and excite the atoms in the upper atmosphere to glow.

Voila! The Northern lights.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!
