GDOT Burns Midnight Oil to Widen Abercorn Street

The Georgia Department of Transportation wants Savannah area motorists to be aware that the agency will deploy crews overnight to finish the widening of Abercorn Street / Hwy 204.  GDOT spelled it out for the public in a news release that said in part:

Contractor for the Georgia DOT will be installing a temporary double lane closure on S.R. 204/Abercorn Street east/westbound between Wilshire Avenue and Largo Drive. These lane closures are scheduled nightly from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m., Monday, September 30 through Friday, October 5, weather permitting. This temporary lane closure will be utilized for concrete/asphalt operations.

GDOT also reminded drivers that extreme caution will be needed in the area of the work zone. They want motorists to reduce speed and watch out for the massive orange and white barrels and yellow signs that are a normal part of the process. They also say crews will be working rather close to lanes that are open to drivers, so again, caution is advised. The work begins in earnest starting Monday night.
