BLOUNTVILLE, TN (WJHL) -

A "suspicious object" found on an Allegiant flight at Tri-Cities Regional Airport resulted in a lockdown Sunday afternoon around 2:00 p.m.

"Apparently there was a suspicious device that was identified in one of the overhead bins," said Melissa Thomas, Director of Marketing.

That meant no flights could land or take off, leaving passengers stranded at the airport.

"Standing here waiting in line to get through the TSA check point," said passenger Jeffrey Hunt.

Kingsport and Bristol, Tennessee Police and Sullivan County Sheriff's Office brought in the bomb squad and K-9 units to surround the flight from Orlando.

"But it did not, apparently show as being a bomb, however it definitely was a suspicious device," said Thomas.

Several people missed their flights and or connecting flights, but they were left in the dark as to why.

"I would have liked more information. I wish they would have said something to us," said Hunt.

But after two hours the lockdown was lifted.

"And the device has been removed from the airport and is being further inspected and then will be destroyed," said Thomas.

And will now be left in the hands of investigators.

Tri-Cities Regional Airport's Melissa Thomas confirmed with News Channel 11 that the lockdown placed on the airport after a "suspicious object" was found on an Allegiant flight, has now been lifted.

The object is now off the premises, and will undergo investigation. A flight crew member found the object in the overhead bin. The flight arrived to the Tri-Cities from Orlando around 1:45 p.m. By 2:00 p.m., Thomas says TCRA was on lockdown. Thomas says it is unknown at this time which passenger was the owner of the object.

The Kingsport Police Department, along with its bomb squad, and the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office responded to the incident.
