Friday is National Gay Men's HIV/AIDS Awareness Day

Posted: Updated:

Friday, September 27th is National Gay Men's HIV/AIDS Awareness Day.

The CDC says the day is aimed at getting more men tested and treated.

It's also a time to reflect on the heavy toll HIV has taken among gay and bisexual men, and acknowledge the contributions made in the fight against the illness.

The centers for disease control and prevention says about a third of gay and bisexual men are HIV positive and don't know it.

While treatments have advanced, still too many are becoming infected.

The CDC says testing is becoming easier and faster, and should be utilized by the gay community.
