SIX ARRESTED IN SAVANNAH DRUG SWEEP

Posted: Updated:

SCMPD says that six people are facing charges following a drug investigation that began last summer after a night of violence that included two deadly shootings.  Those shootings, back on July 30th, left two teenagers, Syheem Spaulding, 15,  and Dominique Bright, 18, dead and another wounded.

Police say neighbors told them that the shootings were the result of drug activity in the east Savannah neighborhood.  Today the investigation culminated with a number of arrests as Tactical Investigation Unit detectives from Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department's Central Precinct led the warrant sweep on three houses on the 1100 and 1200 blocks of East 38th Street.

Six people are facing charges tonight.  They have been identified as 22-year old Marlon Harris, 26-year old Ricky Maurice Johnson, 26-year old Dominique Antwan Giles, 24-year old LaToya Renee Young-Evans, 22-year old Malcom Everett Orr, and 23-year James Montrell Wong, Jr.  All are facing various charges from conspiracy to sell drugs, to possession, to probation violation.

Besides the arrests, police say they also seized from the three locations various amounts of powdered cocaine, crack cocaine, marijuana and MDMA, a drug known as "Molly."
