The Effingham County Sheriff's Office has identified the victims of the crash as 17-year-old Lacey Danielle Longworth, of Bloomingdale and her brother Henry Longworth.

They say Henry was driving on Bay near Old River Road, when his SVU somehow lost control, struck a power pole and flipped over.

Lacey was pronounced dead at the scene. Henry was air lifted to an area hospital with life threatening injuries.  Another teenage passenger was also taken to an area hospital with non life threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Original Story:

The Effingham community is mourning the loss of yet another teen tonight after a deadly car crash.

The Sheriff's Office tells us she was a 17-year old senior at South Effingham High School.

It happened around 3:30 Tuesday afternoon on Bay Road near Old River Road in Effingham. Investigators tell us the driver somehow lost control of the SUV he was driving and flipped into a nearby power pole.

The 17-year old female passenger was pronounced dead on scene. Her brother, the driver, was air lifted to Memorial with life threatening injuries. Investigators say it's a sad and all too common scene on the roads of Effingham County.

"Roads are dangerous," says ESCO spokesperson David Ehsanipoor.

"I believe we have become more proactive in education and enforcement. I think our serious injuries and fatalities have gone down. But there is always room for improvement. One fatality is one too many."

The names of the victims are being withheld until tomorrow. The cause for the crash is still under investigation.
