Columbus police release name of suspect in Scott murder

COLUMBUS, Ga. -

Columbus police have released the name of the man arrested in connection with Thursday's fatal shooting of 34-year-old David Scott.

Tyrecquiss Shaewaun Wells, 22, was arrested on Floyd Road Tuesday after a chase began on Buena Vista Road. He is being charged with murder and will make his first court appearance Friday at 9 a.m.

Scott was fatally shot in the head near the intersection of 7th Street and Coolidge Avenue. He was still alive but wounded when an officer saw him in his white Chevrolet Impala at about 10:40 p.m. He succumbed to his injuries at 2:15 a.m.

Well is also being charged with aggravated assault in connection with an incident that occurred on September 19 on Baltic Court, police say. Additional charges are expected to connection with either case as police continue their investigation.

News 3 is working to obtain a mug shot of Scott and will have updates on this story as additional information becomes available.
