The Beat Goes On: 32nd Annual Savannah Jazz Festival in Full Swing

The Savannah Jazz Music Festival is in full swing.

Presented by the Coastal Jazz Association (CJA) and sponsored in part by the City of Savannah, the annual event kicked off its 32nd year Sunday in midtown's Habersham Village.

The week-long festival brings live performances to the general public at no cost.

Concerts continue through this Wednesday at Habersham Village (61st & Habersham Streets). The festival then moves to Forsyth Park September 26 - 28 with late night jam sessions beginning at 11 pm at Rancho Alegre Cuban Restaurant on MLK Blvd.

More on the Coastal Jazz Association:
Conceived in late 1982, the Coastal Jazz Association came about after eight area jazz lovers attended an appreciation course conducted by late legendary bassist Ben Tucker at Savannah State College (now University). Tucker was killed during a tragic car accident in June of this year.

Today, CJA has hundreds of members, including business professionals, musicians, educators, students and just plain "listeners" who share a common focus: to help Jazz thrive in the Coastal Empire.
