FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -

A Superior Court Judge ordered the trial of Antoinette Davis to be delayed two weeks.

Judge James Ammons Jr. ordered the start of Davis' trial to begin Oct. 28. It was previously scheduled to start Oct. 14.

It was not immediately clear why the trial was delayed.

Davis is accused of giving her daughter, Shaniya Davis, to Mario McNeill, who was convicted earlier this year of murdering the child.

Shaniy Davis' body was found on Nov. 16, 2009, six days after she was reported missing.

In 2011, a Cumberland County grand jury indicted Antoinette Davis on charges of first-degree murder, felony sexual servitude, human trafficking, indecent liberties with a child, felony child abuse, rape of a child, sexual offense of a child by an adult offender and making a false police report.

Police believe Davis gave her daughter to McNeill for prostitution.

McNeill was sentenced to death in May after being found guilty of six of seven charges in the death of Shaniya Davis. McNeill was accused of raping and killing the 5-year-old, but jurors did not convict McNeill on the rape charge.

Prosecutors will not seek the death penalty for Davis if convicted.

Rough Weather Causes Tree To Collapse onto House

Our spate of nasty spring weather this weekend didn't just bring rain into the picture. In some parts of our immediate area wind was also a major part of the weather scene. A good example of this is the house in Liberty County that was walloped by a tree. Apparently the house, located in the 4700 block of East Ogelthrope Highway was damaged when a massive tree fell on it. Neighbors believe heavy winds caused the tree to topple onto the building. The good news here is no one was injured. But t...
