Accused Fair Shooter Turns Down Potential Plea Offer

Posted: Updated:
SAVANNAH, GA -

Lajuan Sloman - one of the men accused of shooting into a crowd at the Coastal Empire Fair last Fall appeared in Chatham County Superior Court on Monday.  Sloman was scheduled to be arraigned on seventeen charges related to the shooting that left eight people injured.  That arraignment was delayed and his request for a speedy trial withdrawn in favor of a later arraignment with his eight co-defendants in a new indictment sent down by the Grand Jury two weeks ago that added gang-related charges to his counts.  Defense Attorney Richard Darden told Judge Michael Karpf that he would be submitting a new request for a speedy trial on the new indictment.

Also revealed in court, word that prosecutors offered Sloman a plea deal that would have seen him get sixty years with forty to serve behind bars.  Sloman, turned that offer and a revised one that would have required him serve less time down and is rejecting any further plea negotiations.
