Posted: Updated:

It was a rough Friday for smartphone maker Blackberry.

The company announced it is cutting 45-hundreds jobs or about 40 percent of its global workforce.

The news came as the company also announced it will report a nearly one-billion-dollar loss for the second quarter.

Blackberry's stock is down more than 26 percent this year.

Last month, the company reported it is exploring ways to keep itself afloat including a possible sale of the company.
