Attorney General appeals Brad Cooper ruling

Posted: Updated:
RALEIGH, N.C. -

The Attorney General's Office has appealed the North Carolina Appeals Court ruling that Brad Cooper should get a new murder trial in the death of his wife.

The appeals court granted Cooper a new trial earlier in the death of his wife, Nancy.

The attorney general's office claims a review by the state Supreme Court is appropriate because the decision is one of significant public interest and involves a victim and defendant from another state (Canada).

Cooper was found guilty in May 2011 of first-degree murder in Nancy Cooper's July 2008 death. Cooper claimed his wife went out for a jog and never returned.

Her body was later found in a ditch.

The N.C. Appeals court granted Cooper a new trial after his attorneys argued that based that a Google Map search could have been done by someone using Cooper's laptop.

Rough Weather Causes Tree To Collapse onto House

Our spate of nasty spring weather this weekend didn't just bring rain into the picture. In some parts of our immediate area wind was also a major part of the weather scene. A good example of this is the house in Liberty County that was walloped by a tree. Apparently the house, located in the 4700 block of East Ogelthrope Highway was damaged when a massive tree fell on it. Neighbors believe heavy winds caused the tree to topple onto the building. The good news here is no one was injured. But t...
