Whole Foods of Savannah, located on Victory Drive, is the latest to join a coalition of caring to assist the Second Harvest Food Bank of Savannah. Whole Foods join generous community partners such as Kroger and the Savannah Sand Gnats in holding fundraisers for the group. All day Tuesday, the store will donate 5% of total sales to Second Harvest.
As you may recall, WSAV.com was first to tell you about a devastating roof collapse that put thousands of food in danger of spoiling. Since then, the community and businesses have stepped up to aide the crucial organization.
As the roof is being repaired, Second Harvest has indicated their greatest need is canned protein such as Tuna and peanut butter.
Whole Foods released this statement Monday: "Four times a year, our stores hold community giving days (otherwise known as "5% Days") where five percent of that day's net sales are donated to a local nonprofit or educational organization. The groups that benefit from these 5% Days are as varied as the communities themselves.
Tomorrow's 5% Day is an exciting opportunity to assist one of our community partners during their time of need, as you may know, America's Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia has just suffered a devastating roof collapse. With the holiday's fast approaching we'd like to help them recover as quickly as possible. Help us help them!"
The fundraiser continues until the store closes this evening at 9:00pm.
