Search For Wimbee Creek Boater Going Five Days Strong

Posted: Updated:
BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. -

Sunday marked the fifth day search crews combed Wimbee Creek for 54 year old Carl Mulligan.

Mulligan and one other man, James Albany, were in a boating accident on Wednesday. Albany says the steering wheel of his boat broke off, causing the boat to spin and throw Mulligan overboard.

"I feel sorry that this happened to him, you know. He was my buddy. We were family. I've known him for a long time," says Albany.

Agencies like SCDNR have been searching for days now, but there's still no trace of Mulligan. His family and friends say they are looking for answers, more than ever.

"If they do find him, I'd like to know what happened," says Albany.

"We're waiting and watching, just hoping for the best," says Mulligan's girlfriend, Loretta Stevenson. "If you know the word the prayer, just keep us all in your prayers," she says.

Mulligan's loved ones say they will stay by the dock every day until they get some answers.

"Carl was a nice, soft spoken person. Quiet type…me and him were dating about 11 years, maybe more," Stevenson says. "It's just a tragic loss. I don't know what to say or how to say it."
