VSP: 70 shelter dogs involved in vehicle crash on I-81 early Saturday morning. No injuries reported.

The vehicle that overturned on I-81 in Washington County, Virginia was a camper carrying 70 shelter dogs.  Thankfully there were no injuries to the animals of the driver of the vehicle.  The shelter dogs, all small breeds, were traveling from Arkansas to Maine.  The animals are now staying at the Washington County, Virginia Animal Shelter until they can continue their journey north.  VSP says the driver lost control of the vehicle near exit 24.  VSP tells us the driver swerved to avoid hitting a car in front of her, then the camper flipped onto the passenger's side.  The driver was cited for failure to maintain proper control.

According to Virginia State Police, troopers responded to a vehicle crash in Washington County, Virginia.  VSP tells us the crash happened on Interstate 81 around 6 this morning.  VSP says they know very little right now, but told us they are receiving reports of an over turned vehicle possibly in the north bound lane.  News Channel 11 also heard VSP radio traffic mentioning animals in cages and requesting help from animal control, however that is not confirmed by VSP at this time.  We will update you as more information becomes available.
