WSAV.com has learned that all McIntosh County Schools were dismissed after a 'security concern' at one of the schools. As of 1:00PM, police were still working to help dismiss students.

Officials in McIntosh County tell News 3 that "All students and all teachers are safe" following a credible threat that forced the closure of the schools today. "We feel like we had to shut the schools down". The statement was made during a press conference around 2:00 Thursday afternoon.

Chatham County K-9 units, FBI, GSP, and Sheriffs officials were all on the scene. The Sheriff says a photo of a handgun and a statement were circulated on social media, prompting the scare. No arrest as been made. School will resume tomorrow as scheduled.

Witnesses say, at one point, McIntosh Academy was placed on lockdown. Parents tell WSAV 'it has been a chaotic scene' as parents rush to remove their children from the schools. Parents say they are being searched, and some vehicles are being searched as well.

According to The Darien News:

"There was a safety concern at one of the schools and a decision was made to send all children home," stated Dr. Diane J. Richardson, of McIntosh County Schools.

MCA is currently locked down by the McIntosh County Office of the Sheriff. Updates will be posted as soon as available. All McIntosh County Schools are being evacuated. Parents who brought students to school this morning may pick them up with proper identification after signing them out in the office. Students who arrived on buses must leave on the bus and are being transported where they may be picked up by parents. Students who drove vehicles to school will be allowed to leave after their vehicle is searched by the MCSO.
