Job seekers Make it Back to Work

News 3 spent part of the day with a young man and a young woman who had both been thrown out of work this year but managed to make it back to work. They credit their success to factors which one surface at least, may sound surprisingly simple.

The young man we talked with is James Burks. Burks now actually has two positions, one at a sea food warehouse, the other at a home and garden distribution center. But in 2011 he was without any kind of job at all - the housing supply business he worked in went out of business. He was thrown out of a job and had to move back in with his parents.

Two things helped him get back to work he says; his faith in God and prayer, and his decision not to give up looking. Along the way he sought the services of the Sullivan group, and they helped him get the positions he has now. Again though, he credits his decision not to give in. The young woman we talked with found work as a medical transcriber.

Demetria Lewis says it's important to spread your resume' around, and when you find a place that's looking to fill a position, contact them again and again in her words " Let them know that you're anxious to work". Both Burks and Lewis sought the help of a temp service as part of their strategy to get back to work.
