Savannah Military Heroes Return Home

Posted: Updated:
SAVANNAH, GA -

Families in our area are celebrating the return of their heroes tonight. Around 150 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade soldiers stationed at Hunter Army Airfield are back from Afghanistan after nine months.

This homecoming was especially important to the Craft family. This is the third deployment for Sgt. Kris Craft but the first one his wife and four kids could attend.

Nicole Craft dressed up her four kids as superheroes as they waited for dad.

"He's a hero, he fights, and he's pretty good," said Dylan Craft.

Once the ceremony finished other families were quick to find each other but the Craft's took a little longer with their reunion. After finding one another, Nicole said there was nothing better than this moment.

"My biggest fear was her not going to him, the youngest one, but she did, she reached for him," said Nicole Craft.

"It's a weird feeling. I haven't held her in nine months and she came right to me. I actually didn't think she was going to but she did," said Sgt. Kris Craft.

Sgt. Craft said after missing so many life moments while he was deployed he's ready to play catch up with this family.

"It was very emotional for me over there this time also because of the kids and her going through everything it was rough but we made it," said Sgt. Craft.

What makes this homecoming even more special for the Craft family is being able to celebrate Dylan's birthday Sunday as a complete family.
