The mother accused of leaving her baby in a shopping cart in Colleton county has been released from jail on bond.

Tuesday afternoon Walterboro Police responded to Walmart where a 7-month-old baby was found unattended in a shopping cart in the parking lot.

Witnesses told police that they found a baby in a car seat inside a shopping cart on isle 4 of the lot.  Investigators say a phone number was attached to the baby's car seat.  Police notified the baby's mother, Ashley Murdaugh,  that her child was left in a shopping cart at Walmart.

Authorities placed the baby in the protective custody of DSS.  DSS later released the baby to a family member of the suspect.

Police say Ashley Murdaugh was arrested Wednesday and charged with child neglect.
