SAVANNAH, GA -

Airing on the side of caution tonight Savannah-Chatham Metro Police shut down part of Derenne Avenue, between Abercorn and Montgomery Streets Tuesday night. The Hampstead and White Bluff intersection as well as the Bull Street and Derenne Avenue intersection were also closed to traffic.

SCMPD tells News Three that someone spotted a rice cooker with a mysterious liquid flowing out of it near the Derenne Shopping Center. It happend just before 7p.m. Officers, a bomb squad, and fire officials quickly arrived on scene to access the situation.

A News Three crew spoke with officials on the scene and learned that the rice cooker was in fact an old appliance that had been left by someone. Thankfully no real danger was present, but officials preferred to play it safe while they investigated the matter. Streets were re-opened within the hour.
