Long County Drowning Victim, 11, Identified

Posted: Updated:
Long County, Ga -

Fifteen feet of water may not sound that deep to an experienced swimmer, but it was apparently too much for an 11-year old Long County girl. Authorities say the child drown Sunday evening after swimming in a neighborhood bar pit. The pit resembles a pond, and is dug for drainage purposes. The victim was identified Monday as Anjalia Drake, 11.

Long County Deputy Coroner, Robert Parker, said the body of the young girl was recovered from the bar pit or pond adjacent to the Country Manor Mobile home park on Tibbet Road. The youngster apparently drowned while swimming in the 15 foot deep pond shortly before 5 p.m. Sunday. A private dive team was called in to retrieve the body. There was another child swimming with her at the time of the drowning. Stay tuned to WSAV News 3 for a news update, and keep watching this site for more details as well.
