Woman's Body Found In Northbound Lanes Of I-71 In North Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio -

The northbound lanes of Interstate 71 have reopened after a woman's body was found in the lanes of the interstate early Wednesday morning.

Officers and EMS personnel were dispatched to I-71 north at about 4:55 a.m. Wednesday after several vehicles traveling north on I-71 reported seeing a woman lying in the middle of the roadway. Callers reported that it appeared the woman had been struck by several vehicles.

The woman was located and pronounced dead on scene by medics at about 5:04 a.m.

Investigators have identified the woman through fingerprints. Her identity will not be released until her next of kin has been notified.

Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to contact the Columbus police accident investigation unit at 614-645-4767.

The northbound lanes were closed between Interstate 670 and East Cooke Road. The ramps from Hudson Street, Weber Road, East North Broadway, East 5th, East 11th, and East 17th avenues onto I-71 north were also closed, according to officials from the Ohio Department of Transportation.

All northbound lanes and ramps reopened at about 11:50 a.m.

No other information was readily available.
