Morning Manhunt Ends in Arrest of Child Sex Suspect

Port Wentworth, GA -

Police detectives say the search for an accused child sexual predator wanted in Port WentWorth turned into a massive manhunt Wednesday morning. It led to the lockdown of three schools on Whitemarsh Island.

The Port WentWorth Police Department says James Dover has a violent history and was considered dangerous. So it was that information that sparked alarm after a tip alerted  investigators on Dover's presence in the Viera at Whitemarsh Apartment complex.

Savannah-Chatham Metro Police tells News Three that before units arrived, Dover dashed into a wooded area just west of the apartment complex on Johnny Mercer Boulevard, until he was no longer visible.

As a precaution, three nearby schools were temporarily placed on lockdown at 9:15a.m.

A joint search effort by local police and the U.S. Marshal Service eventually led to Dover's arrest several hours later.
