Winner announced for 2013 Savannah River Bridge Run Design Contest

Posted: Updated:

A winner has been named in the Enmark Savannah River Bridge Run poster design contest.  Savannah resident, James "Thommy" Harless, was chosen as the winner and receives a $1,000 grad prize funded by the Savannah Sports Council.  His design will serve as the official 2013 Enmark Savannah River Bridge run t-shirt design and will be used in various promotional materials.

This year was the first the public got to participate in the poster design contest.  The design was based on creativity, originality and the use of some required elements.

Previous Story:

We're less than four months away from one of Savannah's premiere fundraising and sporting events.

On December 7th, the 2013 Enmark Savannah River Bridge run will kick off.

But before you lace up your shoes, organizers hope you'll get involved in another competition- this one involves a little creativity.

An art/poster contest is now underway.

It's open to the general public with a grand prize of $1,000 cash.

The winning design will appear on posters, t-shirts, brochures and advertising promoting the upcoming event.

The entry deadline is noon, Friday, August 30th.
The winning entry will then be announced on Friday, September 6th on

The event has been called the "south's toughest bridge race" where participants run, walk, or crawl their way to the top.

Every year, thousands sign up to pound the pavement for a good cause. Proceeds benefit the Nancy N. and J.C. Lewis Cancer & Research Pavilion at St. Joseph's / Candler.

Ben Wilder, Director of the Greater Savannah Sports Council says this year, they're expecting more than 6,500 participants.

"It is a big event," Wilder says, "over 5,000 of those people are local. So, it's the biggest local race. Rock n' Roll Marathon has about 2,500 local people. So, we double that... and it's a fun event. There's the 5k, 10k, the Double Pump. So, it's a little bit of everything. If you're a beginner or an advanced runner, we have something for you to do."

There's also a kid quarter mile event.

Awards will be given to top runners.

Free transportation will be offered from 6 a.m. to noon from the Savannah Civic Center to the Savannah international trade and convention center.
