Flash Flood Watch Later Today through Saturday Evening

A Flash Flood Watch Is In Effect From Noon Today Through Saturday Evening For The Entire Coastal Empire And Low Country.

An Upper Level System Will Develop Southward Over The Lower Gulf Coast Region Through Saturday While A Warm Front Slowly Lifts North Over Southeast Georgia And Southern South Carolina. This Setup Favors Moisture Increasing From Both The Gulf Of Mexico And Atlantic Ocean. There Is A Potential For Heavy Rainfall And Flash Flooding At Times This Afternoon Through Saturday Evening.

Recent Rains The Past Few Days Have Resulted In Saturated Soils And Additional Rains Will Be Slower To Runoff Resulting In Standing Water. Through Saturday...2 To 3 Inches Of Rain Are Expected With Local Amounts Exceeding 4 Inches Possible.

Flooding Could Occur Quickly...Especially In Low-Lying And Poor Drainage Areas. Driving Could Become Hazardous As Some Area Roadways Could Become Impassable Due To High Water...Especially In Urban Areas Like Downtown Charleston And Savannah Around The Time Of High Tide.

Be Prepared To Protect Life And Property... Especially In Areas Prone To Flooding. If Flooding Develops...Move To Higher Ground Immediately. If Driving...Be Prepared For Flooded Roadways And Possible Road Closures.
