Tybee Ocean Rescue says they have rescued a sea turtle covered in barnacles. The creature was spotted by the department of public works on Tybee this morning about 9:15am, officials say.
3 Ocean Rescue crew members, including Amber Kroeck, swam out on a rescue board to bring him to safety.
The turtle was taken by the Department of Natural Resources to the Georgia Sea Turtle Center on Jekyll Island for recovery and rehabilitation.
Crews tell us he is a sub adult Loggerhead, suffering from anemia. He is also debilitated because of the tremendous amount of weight on his back from the barnacles.
It is too soon to know if he will recover, but the team members at the turtle center assure us, they will do their best!
